Harold Ramis 1944-2014 In Memoriam

I want to send out love to the Ramis family, we all lost an immense talent today. He wasn't just funny, he was hard working and brilliant. Ramis wrote and directed many of the quintessential comedy films that would go on to influence and change Hollywood's understanding of the entire comedy movie genre and what potential it could have. The films he made would launch many careers and would inspire the next few generations of Hollywood's a-listers. The news of his passing is sure to devastate many in the film community. Take a look at a few of the films […]

House Of Cards Season 2 The Voices Review

Michel Gill. I walk away from watching the second season of the brilliant Netflix series "House Of Cards", and immediately I wanted to write about supporting actor Michel Gill. He did an amazing standout job playing the role of Garrett Walker, The President of the United States. There are some simply incredible performances throughout this series. The 2 leads, Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, are razor sharp here... Spacey is more at home this season, but he was on point the first season also....as was Wright. Here, they are now a combined force. They are Fierce, loyal to each other […]

Joy Division’s Transmission From Anton Corbijn's Control

I could go off here for a while about the beauty of Anton's eye, how he paints with images, how the black and white photography in this film shot by cinematographer Martin Ruhe is gorgeous and the entire film looked like silk to me, but I'm sitting in a parking lot banging this out on my iPad and I need to get back home. But listen. I didn't know much about Joy Division before watching this film. Then as it progressed, and because I have this crush on all things Great Britain (I'm going home to my British SwePea), I […]

"Game Of Thrones" Ice And Fire: A Foreshadowing

What up yo. Here is a 15 minute preview of the upcoming Fourth season of Thrones. Winter Is Coming... Well, I'm a New Yorker. Winter has been here a while now with a fury this year. "Nature. Is. A whore." Kurt

Kevin Spacey & Robin Wright "House Of Cards" Season II

I have finished the first episode of season 2. The following 2 thoughts raced though my mind. "Wow." "Razor - Fucking - Sharp." Slick. Rock and roll. Gasoline. It moves like a runaway train. Better do your homework on season 1 before you start. No spoon feeding here. Waiting the entire episode for Kevin Spaceys Frank Underhill to turn around and look at us. He doesn't. Not till he's done with his agenda for episode 1. A few times during the episode I was reminded of the harshness of the characters that we had become familiar with from season 1. […]

Sam Mendes Presents "Penny Dreadful"

What up yo. New series, looks high octane. It's on Showtime. It premieres in May. It's called "Penny Dreadful" It's produced by Sam ("Skyfall" "American Beauty") Mendes. It stars Eva Green & Josh Hartnett. It looks delicious. Trailer below.

Pearl Jam "The Momma-Son Tape"

Here's a little clip from "Pearl Jam 20", the documentary film from Cameron Crowe.
The "Mama-Son" tape refers to the instrumental containing versions of what would become "Once" "Alive" & "Footsteps". Eddie Vedder received the tape from his friend, former Chili Peppers drummer and future short-term PJ drummer (Yield) back in 1990.

Grease
Is The Word

Grease the film musical starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John was a blockbuster in the theaters in 1978, and is simply iconic 40 years later. A feat very few films an claim.

Dylan Farrow Responds To Woody Allen

Dylan Farrow originally posted a scathing account of sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of Woody Allen when she was 7 on February 1, 2014 to New York Times columnist Nicholas D. Kristof's blog. I've re-posted and commented on both Dylan's letter and Woody Allen's response. Woody says it's all lies. He spends much of his letter focusing on Mia Farrow, not on his adopted daughter Dylan. This speaks volumes to me. If Allen is telling the truth and is innocent of the charges, or if he is guilty of the heinous crimes, the one common denominator is that […]

"The Music Man", 1962 - "Rock Island"

"YOU GOTTA KNOW THE TERRITORY" "LOOK! WHAT D'YA TALK, WHAT D'YA TALK, WHAT D'YA TALK, WHAT D'YA TALK!" What up yo. I used to watch this one with my Mom. I had forgotten the music, why I liked it, then I watched a few days ago...and watching the opening number "Rock Island" (they did a great job touching this BluRay up. Video & Sound) hurled me backwards in time to 1981, being a kid, sitting with Mom and watching this...memories I always appreciate. The opening number to me is gasoline. High octane. Listening to them perform this...watching them perform this...me […]

Phillip Seymour Hoffman By Cameron Crowe

This is from the almighty Cameron Crowes website, "The Uncool" on Phillip Seymour Hoffmans performance of the midnight phone call scene in his autobiographical film "Almost Famous". PSH "My original take on this scene was a loud, late night pronouncement from Lester Bangs. A call to arms. In Phil’s hands it became something different. A scene about quiet truths shared between two guys, both at the crossroads, both hurting, and both up too late. It became the soul of the movie. In between takes, Hoffman spoke to no one. He listened only to his headset, only to the words of […]

Philip Seymour Hoffman 1967 - 2014 In Memoriam

Fuck. Goddamn it man.... what a talent I'm at a loss for words. He was a fine actor. I don't know what he had to do to get those performances out... I don't know how it happened. I just read some trade magazine post that he only had 7 days if filming left on Hunger Games To which I say Fuck off. Who cares about footage. About a film. They will deal with it. Just like the fast and furious movies when Paul Walker passed. I didn't want to hear about the future of those films. These are men. […]

The Bogmen's "Suddenly" | Video

These dudes are from Huntington, my home town in Strong Island. A few things... First off, this song reminds me of the 90s which, as I get older and look back, were amazing. I had a complete ball. The song is about a man calling his ex-girlfriend on the phone, a woman named Darlese, for the 100th time. Darlese has been avoiding him, not taking his calls since he has been out of work and every time the storyteller, Freddie, calls... Darlese's roommate answers the phone saying she isn't home and she will leave a message. The story begins with […]

Jean-Marc Vallée's "Dallas Buyers Club", 2013 | A VoicesFILM Review

Let me start off by saying that I didn't know Matthew McConaughey could act this well. I'll be honest, I didn't give him much credit. 2 things recently have changed my mind on that foolish generalization on my part: First, HBO's new series "True Detective" which is hypnotic and remarkable...and I've only seen the first 2 episodes... Second, his work in this film, which will stay with me forever. Now Leto I knew had acting chops. I saw his work as Mark David Chapman in "Chapter 27", "Fight Club", "American Psycho" and have always recognized his dedication, talent and ability […]

Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" Minus Delbert Grady | Artwork, Stills & Video

Another video from Richard Trammell Rich has skills. He has offered up this scene from Kurbicks "The Shining"... where Delbert Grady suggests that Jack "correct" his wife and son from interfering with Jack performing his duties as new (The Only) caretaker of the Overlook Hotel...just as Grady has done in the past during his tenor as caretaker. (Grady chopped up his family with an axe when they interfered) If you haven't seen "The Shining" and call yourself a film buff, there is a massive gap in your education and film vocabulary. You also should avoid this scene. Otherwise, enjoy. ARTWORK […]

David Fincher's "Fight Club" Minus Tyler Durden | Video

Here's a scene from the almighty "Fight Club" with Tyler (Brad Fucking Pitt) Durden removed. You are not the car you drive. You are not how much money you have in the bank. I wanted to destroy something beautiful. Much credit goes to Richard Trammell for being awesome, slick and offering this up to us Space Monkeys out here, still patiently awaiting our next assignments from Project Mayhem HQ.   Bravo. Hope he does the whole film... Thanks Uncle Paul. From Mashable, With Love... Related articles How THAT Fight Club Scene Would Look Without Tyler Durden Cool Videos: Check out this […]

Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killers" | Quote & Scene

"Once upon a time, a woman was picking up firewood. She came upon a poisonous snake frozen in the snow. She took the snake home and nursed it back to health. One day the snake bit her on the cheek. As she lay dying, she asked the snake, "Why have you done this to me?" And the snake answered, "Look, bitch, you knew I was a snake." "Hannibal" Season 2 | Trailer & Artwork

Hi. I fucking love this show. Love. Fucking. This Show. Its beautifully dark visual poetry. The show feels like a Malick or Kubrick film, with each shot carefully planned & framed. Not like photographs. Like paintings... I've said all this before...but the hour draws near where season 2 will return. Got some images and a trailer below. Season 2 DROPS Feb 2014...and thats the double truth ruth. HANNIBAL: SEASON 2 | TRAILER HANNIBAL: SEASON 2 | ARTWORK & PROMOTIONAL

Pearl Jam Interview With Judd Apatow

"YOU'RE SO WARM... OH...THE RITUAL... WHEN I LAY DOWN... YOUR CROOKED ARM!!! SPIN...SPIN... SPIN THE BLACK CIRCLE!! SPIN,SPIN... SPIN THE BLACK, SPIN THE BLACK!!!" What up yo. videos below. 1st one is of my boys performing: SPIN SPIN!!! SPIN THE BLACK CIRCLE!! during the "Self Pollution Radio" live FM radio broadcast on January 8, 1995. I was driving around with my brother Sunthar that night almost 20 years ago... Holy shit... Listening to the broadcast on the radio live. I remember it being this crazy idea at the time, and it was on late for us as we were 3 […]

REVIEW: Spike Jonze "Her"

Spike Jonze "Her" | A VoicesFILM Review Dear God. I didn't see that ending coming. I have just seen Spike Jonze latest film, "Her". It floored me. This isn't what I expected at all. You watch the fluffy and attractive trailer and think: "Ahhhh. A new and interesting sweet love story." Listen. Spike Jonze wouldn't waste his time bringing you a nice little love story. This film is on par with the brilliant "Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind" from Michael Kondry & Charlie Kaufman. That film is still jacking me up and I saw it 10 years ago. Saying […]

Brandon Hardesty - Re-Enactments By... | Video

I'm all for supporting people out there like myself who feel the need to create because if they don't they'll lose it. I can identify with needing to create, to be heard....to be a singular voice that is distinguishable from all others....because we are all special. I write this because when I first Brandon Hardesty's videos that was the immediate impression I got from him. A man, who stands up, un afraid to be who he is. Says fuck you to the people that may not get him, says fuck you to the idea of those people...the notion of the […]
