What Up Yo.
We hadn’t seen anything like this when it came out.
For a teaser trailer, the influence this had on pop culture at the time was massive.
This was back in the early days of the internet.
At the beginning of the internet explosion, the dawn of the digital age, when people had one computer in a household…if that.
This teaser appeared when people began to watch movie trailers at home on their computers, over very slow internet connections be it via a dial-up modem or 10 mbps broadband internet connection if you lived in one of few areas where it was available at the time.
Tarantino had directed three films at the time of filming Kill Bill:
- Reservoir Dogs
- Pulp Fiction
- Jackie Brown
This is in addition to penning the screenplays for at least three more films, among them:
- Natural Born Killers
- True Romance
The fourth film he would direct was to be an epic homage to martial arts films. But when the first cut came in at over four hours…it was decided by Miramax & the director to be divided into two films:
Kill Bill: Volume One & Kill Bill: Volume Two
The teaser trailer, however, had been cut before the decision to divide the movie into two films was made.
Featuring clips that were ultimately cut from both volumes.
Featuring a killer song that would go global soon afterwards, Tomoyasu Hotei’s “Battle Without Honor Or Humanity”, appearing in multiple commercials afterwards.
Ok. On with it.
This was the first teaser trailer released for Quentin Tarantino‘s fourth movie:
And it is, in my opinion, high-octane, gasoline drenched excellence.
